NO2EU-YES TO DEMOCRACY-UK EU ELECTION BROADCAST

I like this broadcast, and I applaud all those involved in this political initiative in the UK...It shows what can be done when the Left start to think outside the box, and makes a refreshing change from the uncritical adulation of all things connected to the EU, which is so often only countered by reactionary and right wing nationalism...I have long held the view that the defence of national sovereignty can be progressive, not everyone would actually be against the EU, but there is little doubt that people all over the EU are sick and tired of its increasing control over our lives as it drives us further an further towards a neo-liberal super state, which primarily serves the interests of big business, over those of the citizens of the member states...YES to DEMOCRACY....and if you doubt the urgency of this cry, then consider why the people of my own country Ireland, are to be forced to vote again on the EU's Lisbon Treaty after having democratically rejected it in a referendum 12 months ago?

There is damn all positive about national sovereignty, unless you are a member of the capitalist class.

Workers have no country.(This is not a silly soundbite or slogan but a critical measure of socialist political consciousness to realise this.)They must make common cause with workers of all countries and none, to get rid of capitalism, however it is organised, nationally, regionally and globally.

The nation state is one way of organising capitalism, it must be captured democratically, locally, regionally and globally, only to be dismantled, in common with other workers doing so.

To be pro or anti Europe is to take the side of one or other capitalist vested interest. It is irrelevant to making the revolution.
There has been no further progressive role for nationalism aftercapitalism became the dominant world system towards the end of the last
century.

Industrialisation under national State capitalism is neither necessary nor economically
progressive

The left are doing workers a disservice by pretending otherwise.

Of course, the Left want to be 'guvnors' too.
In my opinion.:-)

This silly little gesture is laughable.Where have all these "movements" been for the last ten years since the New Labour monster was established.
Union leaders too busy feathering their own nest(incuding Crow).

I wont be voting at all.
Fuck um all

Well I think NO2EU is a great option to vote for.

Too long has the anti-EU opinion been monopolised by the far-right.

It is also interesting to see sections of the 'left' come out in support of the EU, in the face of a coalition of britain's most militant union, socialists, progressives and communists.

It is a joke, these cats who think that somehow we can build a socialist world without any nations, instantly. This is neither realistic nor given any support outside the minds of trot sect-dwellers and trendy anarchist-types.

The EU wants to build an imperialist EU army, it therefore is militarist. The EU has attempted to impose neo-liberal reforms and privatisation, that it seeks to constitutionalise in the lisbon treaty. The EU has judged against the right to strike and the right of a minimum wage, see the viking/laval case etc...

NO2EU represents the only serious way forward for both socialist alternatives to the Neo-Liberal EU and a method to combat the rising popularity of the BNP.

It will not recieve a significant vote, but i feel the campaign has been incrediably worthwhile

You've got to be kidding mate, I might be a trendy anarchist though.

Great result for Joe Higgins - a ray of light in the current gloom -after what seems to have been an excellent and positive socialist campaign (tons better, in my view, than the No2eu venture this side of the water).

That aside, keep up your grand blog mate!

The demand for national sovereignty can certainly be progressive, but in an aggressive imperialist country whose national ruling elite's social agenda lags behind even that of Brussels? The EU's certainly problematical for any left seeking fundamental socio-economic transformation which is naturally easier to embark on at national level than across an economic union of 500 million people, but complaints of an over-powerful "superstate" hardly chime with the case for wholesale socialisation. Personally I'd like an over-powerful "superstate" spanning half a billion people, just not the particular setup we have at the moment. And I don't find the EU bureaucracy markedly more reactionary or unaccountable than our own government in the UK, still less its likely successors.

Those who wish to argue for an end to participation in the EU project need first to demonstrate that we'll really be better off outside a body that’s undoubtedly raised living conditions in its member countries and provided a counter (albeit a grossly flawed and often ineffectual one) to some of the worst global excesses of US neoliberalism, unlike UK governments which happily saw our standards lag for the sake of ruling-class sovereignty and their imagined “special relationship”. I want a unitary socialist Republic of Europe as a stepping-stone to its eventual dissolution in a true global commonwealth: if doing away now with the present EU is a prerequisite to getting there, then so be it, but I don’t want to hear denunciations of “superstates” or the alienation of bourgeois power from its citadels in Whitehall. Until advocates of withdrawal or dismemberment can convince me I’m really better off outside or that a weakened EU would really be a good thing for the world given the likelihood of heightened US paramountcy, then for me it’s Brussels, yes please.

Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the internet the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

Thanks for the diverse tips discussed on this website. I have realized that many insurance firms offer consumers generous special discounts if they prefer to insure multiple cars with them. A significant quantity of households have got several autos these days, specially those with more mature teenage kids still residing at home, as well as the savings upon policies can easily soon begin. So it pays off to look for a good deal.
